Our Christmas Décor!

I started this post before Christmas, but never finished it. Since the 12 days of Christmas starts on Christmas day I am going to still post a few thing over the next week or so.

Here is our family room, empty from all our other décor, with our new real tree ready for our Christmas decorations. We have boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations in our attic, most of which we did not use this year.

We decided the last couple of years to go with a more natural look. You could see two years ago here.

Here we are starting to decorate while watching a Christmas movie. Could you guess which movie we are watching while decorating?

I love what we did this year on top of our cabinets. The fresh greener with pinecones and ornaments. (The greenery we got for free from Home Depot when we bought our tree. They have clippings from other Christmas trees they are going to throw out.)

Our daughter-in-law Ann Marie from White House Black Shutters helped us decorate this year.

I really like the natural  elegant look of these gifts. See what we did here.

We always put this nativity set under our tree. The little ones like play with it.

We recently ordered new couches. I posted about that here. I can’t wait! These couches are 20 years old.

It is always an issue as to what to put on the mantel that will not block the TV. There is not much space and it is difficult to find something that will look nice, but that is not too tall.

This covers the TV a little but doesn’t seem to bother anyone.

My daughter Hannah, 15, came up with this center piece. I really like the way she used the candles along with the natural items from our yard to design this.

Here is another candle holder that we added some pinecones, greenery, and berries to make it look Christmassy.

Ahh!! We are finally done, at least with the family room and kitchen. Could you tell which movie we are watching now?

Here are some other decorations.

I really like our nativity set here. We have lights that go out every year, do you?

IMG_0568

We didn’t have enough trimmings from Home Depot to use everywhere so this year we thought we would use trimmings from trees in our yard that needed to be trimmed anyway. We trimmed our Norway Spruce, wired several pieces together, put it up on our railing, added lights and the stockings. It looked great for about a week and then the needles started to drop and drop until there was basically nothing left.

NOT very pretty!

We were vacuuming up piles of needles every day.

IMG_0544

Since we were having Christmas at our house and there was still two weeks until Christmas we decided to go back to Home Depot to get more of their trimmings. I guess that is one of the reasons Norway Spruces are not used for Christmas trees. They don’t have very good needle retention.

I am not sure what type of tree these new branches are from but they look a whole lot better and it has been a couple of weeks and the needles are staying on.

These needlepoint stockings were made by my sister-in-law for my first five children. I don’t think she knew what she was getting herself into.

IMG_0557

We were able to find other needle point stockings at various places as we had more children. Not quite as nice, but okay. My sister-in-law gave up. lol.

Two of our children use these stockings which she made for my hubby and me.

IMG_0563

I really like how the lights and garland look on the railing. You could see how to we refinished our stairs here.

This is the tree and village set we have in the basement.
