These Baby Wipes make a great baby gift, along with the products to make more, and a package of diapers.

Babies are the most precious gifts in the world and it’s up to us to keep them safe and healthy. There are a lot of things to worry about when it comes to our little ones—what we put on their skin shouldn’t be one of them. Chemicals such as phthalates, parabens, and sodium lauryl sulfate—ingredients that can be skin irritants or endocrine disruptors—have turned up in shampoos, lotions, and baby washes. These products also may contain harmful chemical by-products such as formaldehyde, which the EPA classifies as probable carcinogens. Remember, baby’s skin is five times thinner than yours, making it easier for chemicals to be absorbed. And, because babies have a greater ratio of skin surface to body weight, they have a harder time flushing chemicals out of their systems.
Here is our new, precious, little, baby girl. She is only 2 weeks old and doing great. You could read about her arrival here.

This is one of the gifts we received, from our daughter. You could see how she made this diaper cake on her blog,
Bargain Blondie.

On the cake she gave us the Shaklee Baby products, which were introduced this past year. I had used the old, Shaklee, baby wash and oil. I am very excited to use the new products for my little baby.

The first thing I did with them is to make baby wipes. I have made wipes for years, it saves so much money and then I know what is exactly going on my child’s skin. I received my first wipes as a gift several children ago (lol).
First, you need a container that will hold a half a roll of paper towels. I use this 3 quart Rubbermaid container, which they don’t sell this exact one anymore. You could use any bowl with a lid.

Then cut a roll of Big Bounty paper towels in half. If you use another brand they probably won’t work well.

It is not that hard to cut, but the edges get kind of shredded. You could see the rough edge on the bottom of the roll. (Make sure you use a sharp knife.)

Then get 2 cups of water, I use purified water.

Then stir in 1 teaspoon of the
Shaklee Baby Gentle Wash, and 1/4 teaspoon of the Massaging oil.

When thoroughly mixed, pour the mixture over the paper towels, that are in your container.

Put the lid on it and invert it, so the paper towels will absorb the mixture.

After about 15 min. or until evenly distributed, open the container and pull out the cardboard center tube. Then you are ready to use your Baby wipes, which pull out of the center very easily, and smell so good.

  1. I love the idea of making the first grandchild is coming in a couple of months ...I think I am going to have to try that

  2. Awesome! I'm so glad you found my blog, because now I found your blog! I'm going to have to look into the Shaklee products. :) I hate chemicals and other things I don't know about going on my son's skin!

  3. Wow, I need to look into this Shaklee stuff tonight when I get some free time. I am very interested as our family is slowly trying to go "greener" :) I'm using reusable diapers with our 4th baby due in January and would love to make these wipes to use. Every bit saved is a big deal :)

  4. That is such an awesome idea and definitely a money saver! I am trying this!!!

  5. We are past the baby wipe/diaper stage, but I still love the idea of being able to use wipes to clean hands and faces, etc while out and about. All this to say, we probably won't go through these as quickly as a diapering mom would. How do you keep the wipes from smelling moldy, or from growing mold or other things such as bacteria? Does the oil mixture keep these things at bay?

    1. Kim,
I also use this same method to make handy wipes. I use the Shaklee Hand wash, which is still non-toxic and I use it for all kinds of things. I keep some in a zip-lock bag in my purse and some in the car. If you uses them often enough you will not have a problem. Make sure you clean out the container well before you make the next batch. There are times I will have to throw away some if they not used after a couple of months. That is because I make a couple of batches at a time or the bucket gets miss placed.
Thanks for asking. Here is the link to the Hand Wash.

  6. What great recipes! I will try and make them with Viva paper towels, because they are almost like cloth, and might be even sturdier I hope! I loved your recipe so much I included a link in my article for frugal baby tips on Helium.
