Wellness Wednesday: State weighs ban on scents worn by state workers.

I am on a mission to help people live healthier. I truly believe that what we put into and on our bodies affects our health. Sometimes it may take years to see the long term effect. What we breath is also entering our bodies and could result in health problems.
I don’t know if I agree with this, but New Hampshire lawmakers are debating whether to ban the use of scented or fragrant soaps by state employees.

The reason for the proposed ban -- exposure to scented products can irritate or worsen symptoms for people with asthma or allergies.
"The chemicals in some of these products can trigger the nasal congestion, sneezing and the runny nose," Dr. Stanley Fineman, an allergist with Emory University and the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic, told MyFoxBoston. "With the asthmatics, there's really good data showing their lung function changes when they're exposed to these compounds."
The legislation will get a vote Wednesday (today). If passed and signed into law, it would take effect within 60 days. To read the whole story go here.
This show how chemicals in our personal care products do have consequences.
I personally do not use fragrances of any kind. I just don’t like the smell and they do bother me. One of my daughters has allergic reaction to fragrances in lotions and laundry detergents, and she breaks out in a really bad itchy rash.

  1. I have always had allergic reactions to heavy scents and perfumes, and I don't have asthma. That being said, I think there is a fine line between taking away people's freedom and creating a more comfortable environment for employees.
We recently started making our own laundry soap and we couldn't be happier. It works great and and it does not have obnoxious "rain" or "sunshine" scents.
